About Ata

SHORTLY: Hi there! or "Merhaba!" as you will be greeted here, in Turkey. I'm a 22 years old city guide in Istanbul, whom you can simply call Ata (which means "father" in all the Turkic languages.) I speak Turkish (as a native), English and Spanish in a native-like fluency and a moderate Russian. - yeah, I fancy languages ;) I am a philologist who studies in Istanbul University 1453. I am passionate about history, art and literature - which I will tell you all about of regarding Istanbul. Given that this city is my personal muse, I can expose the great deal of its universal importance to you if you would want my assistance. (My professional camera would also be at your service free of charge should you wish that!) Or you can just tingle me for a friendly chat around a cup of coffee that I would love to have with you!!! LONGER INTRODUCTION: Here in Istanbul... ahh... Istanbul! Which is not just that but Constantinople, or Byzantium, the city with EVERYTHING universally significant both modern and ancient which you can't find anywhere else. Didn't the very Emperor of the French Napoleon Bonaparte said: "If the earth were a single state, Istanbul would be its capital.”?? Sorry, Paris... 'nother time. But my favourite is this: "If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul.” by Alphonse de Lamartine. I will personally make sure that you discover and see why these, and many other wise men have fallen in love with this city. I will begin with telling you the meaning of the word "Istanbul" and crossing via all the classic sites that Uncle Google will recommend you, will take you to the little hidden gems where even locals who'd lived here their entire lives had not yet known. I will tell you the history as if we were travelling through time itself - if you like history that is. Experiencing the variety of local food and desserts? done. Museums? done. Shopping? done. Small, no cost at all trips? done. Making you feel fatigued? done. Wait... what? Beyond all these that I don't have enough space to count; let's just get to know each other. I've been independently doing this thing for a long while now, and all the people whom I had the privilege to know during that time are now labelled in me as "friends", it seemingly doesn't happen otherwise because I LOVE everything you might wanna tell me about yourself, your story, your culture, history, quirks of your language etc. Can't tell, I might already miss you the moment I get to know you. Like I did Susana from Spain...

Things to do in Istanbul with Ata

As in every other touristic city, Istanbul has its quintessential itinerary for tourists in its: - Historic Peninsula where the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar etc. are located. - Or there're classy squares and artistic streets such as Taksim, Istiklal Caddesi, Karakoy, Kadikoy where the popular culture blooms amidst the endless bijou of cafes and shops. - We are to observe the picturesque sunset from Uskudar - which is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, if the sky is merciful enough to be clear. - Or glide atop the endless green cemetery of Eyup in a cable railway to gaze at the panoramic view from the hill of Pierre Lotti. - Maybe I can tell you the secret of the ostrich eggs that are attached to the chandeliers of the Suleymaniye mosque some centuries ago by its Architect Sinan?
