I am a PhD student in Istanbul. It's been 4 years here and I had a chance to visit much of the city. My interest in history, languages, culture, and politics helped me to get to know Turkey and explore not only the classic tourist sites but also not so well-known gems hidden in the back streets. Most of my friends are Turkish and it really feels like a hometown to me. There are plenty of sights which not many tourists are aware of. Old Greek, Jewish, and Armenian neighbourhood, little villages on the shores of Bosphorusö and old neighbourhoods and palaces on the Asian side of the city are waiting for you to be explored. I'll be also happy to take you to local restaurants and cafes to have a taste of local, not tourist-oriented cuisine and social life. Finally, I can be of help if you need a translator for a business meeting.
